STEFFANIE MOTT
Director
Steffanie Mott is the owner and director of Montessori School of Seattle. She received her training from Cornell College in Ithaca, New York in 1976.
Steffanie taught at Montessori Children's House in Charlottesville, Virginia from 1975 - 1977 and at West Side Montessori School in Manhattan in 1978. Steffanie moved to Seattle to begin Montessori School of Seattle in 1979 where she has happily run and continued teaching since.
Outside the classroom, she is a voracious reader and avid walker.
HAYES MOTT
Lead Teacher Co- Director
Hayes Mott received her AMS training from the Montessori Education Institute in 2011 while interning at Montessori School of Seattle. She received her Master’s in Education with a Montessori concentration from Endicott College in 2023.
She began her teaching career at Washington Market School in New York City before returning to her home city, Seattle. Hayes has been a lead teacher at MSS since 2014 but has been active with the school for 26 years (starting as a student)! She currently sits on the board of Pacific Northwest Montessori Association.
Outside the school, Hayes loves to waterski, read, and go out to a good dinner with friends.
VALERIE SPANNAUS
Assistant Teacher
Valerie Spannaus earned her Montessori Assistant Teaching Certificate in 2012 from The Montessori Education Institute of the Pacific Northwest. She earned her Child Care Basics training in 2022.
As a young girl, Val started her education as a Montessori student herself. Her son followed in her education footsteps and attended Montessori School of Seattle for his preschool education.
Val has served and volunteered on various boards in Seattle over the years where she was born and raised. Outside of school she loves playing soccer and spending time with her family and friends. Val is thrilled to be a part of this amazing community of inspiring students and teachers!
